…and I cherish you.

By Silver Blue

I have several hundred (okay, closer to a thousand, most likely) of these little fellows, called Cherished Teddies, from Enesco (and Priscilla Hillman, the artist who creates them). Enesco is also the same company who promotes the “Precious Moments” figurines.

I had an 8×10 of Monsieur Chef Bear hanging on my kitchen wall for a while. Since they rotate (the photos), he’s currently not on display, but the actual figurine is on display on a shelf in my dining room.

Silver Blue, who thinks you should always kiss the cook. Well, unless situations prohibit. LOL.

Roxette Bunny™ & Blackberry Bear

By Silver Blue

Roxette Bunny™ being a good hostess and welcoming Blackberry Bear to the Shenandoah Forester, October 5, 2007.

Silver Blue, who finds RB™ to be an infinite source of cuteness.

Colley Avenue, Ghent, Norfolk, VA

By Silver Blue

February 2007. Looks mostly the same, only the San Antonio Sam’s has been replaced with a Chipotle restaurant.

The Red Dog Saloon (previously The Maxx, and before that, Elliott’s). Home to one of the biggest hot dogs I’ve ever seen (I think it was a 16 oz dog!). Haven’t eaten there in a number of years.

Across the street is Bella Pizzaria in Ghent. Love that the neon sign, this night, was malfunctioning, to tell you to:

“Be A Ghent”. LOL. This place has the best garlic knots, and deluxe stromboli I’ve ever put in my face. 🙂

Finally, just a shot up the street:

The neighbourhood pharmacy (one that’s not a chain!), The Red Dog, (now defunct) San Antonio Sam’s, and the Naro Expanded Cinema.

Silver Blue, who’s finds that it’s a lot easier to lose weight when you do the cooking yourself, but the scenery never changes. LOL.

Mood Food.

By Silver Blue

From 1988. Taken via a Polaroid Land Camera, Norfolk, VA.

I weighed all of 135 lbs in this photo. I never wish to be that skinny again, though I do believe, as a moody photo of me, this works.

Silver Blue, who knows these days, I must be happy with myself, or no one else can be.

A/C? No… D.C.

By Silver Blue

From a 2002 trip to Washington, D.C.

Outside, I think, the FDR memorial.

The Washington Monument. Taken from this side, you couldn’t see the construction (so much) going on near the base (you can see two cranes to the left of the monument, but that’s minimal compared to whatever they were doing in 2002).

The Jefferson Monument, with Jefferson visible. I liked the framing of this one.

Also from the Jefferson Monument…

Looking back on the Washington Monument.

A timely reminder, with all of our everyday struggles:

Perhaps at no time in our Country’s past was this more evident as when brother fought brother in the War Between the States:

I haven’t made it back up to D.C. to photograph as I’d wished either, and it’s a mere 3 hours up the road. Well, there’s always the spring, or summer… or autumn.

Is it the weekend yet?

By Silver Blue

Staying with my post from Toronto in July 2001…the infamous “Blue Light” Weekend Countdown

I’ll be honest that it would be nice to have a number of these around … just to build morale!

This is the “Old” City Hall. I’d tell you about it, but I’ll let them do it:

Love the architecture.  Love the history. Love the photographic opportunities.

The thing is, though, if I lived to be 100, and did nothing but shoot photos each and every day, I’d still not be able to capture all the memories I’d want to, to be able to tell the story of my life.

Of course, I’ll never look like this again, either.

How I loved those shoes. First pair I wore the soles off of in… a really long time.

Silver Blue, who says that more photos will be taken in 2012…. and my wish for you is best expressed through a song I’ve not heard in years… (from 1971)

“May a little bitty bit of sunshine come your way…
and a little bit of love and happiness everyday…
I wish you no goodbyes, but a new friend every morning…
clear blue skies, all the simple things in life that are good and true
that’s the world I wish for you…it’s the real thing…”

Memories of Yesteryear…

By Silver Blue

As you know, I’m a self proclaimed audiophile. I love music, of every type, every sort, every…everything. So, when I go to another area, away from where I live, I tend to want to seek out the music shops. One of the most famous that I’ve been to no longer exists. The facade does, because it’s historic, but the store is no more.

2001.

Toronto.

Sam, The Record Man. Yonge Street.

How I wish I’d been able to get a photo of it at night when those neon records would seem to “spin”.  But, back in those days… I wasn’t thinking that places like this might not always be around.

Silver Blue, who appreciates photos for being able to take you back to places you can no longer go.

We’d hear the bells of St. Paul’s…

By Silver Blue

…not just a song by Linda Eder, but a Church in Norfolk.

Rush hour, one night, about five years ago.

Lit up in splendour.

There’s something special about being about to grab a quick shot out of an open window while you’re waiting for the traffic to move. Just another example of how moments are “made” and not necessarily happen “by chance”.

“We never talked about forever….we were in love and through it all…our hearts would sing every time they’d ring…the ancient bells of St. Paul’s…”

[audio:https://www.eyesofsilverblue.com/tbosp.mp3]

Silver Blue, who is feeling far too much the audiophile for the evening.
