Some ask…

…what the “F.” in F. John Barker III stands for. Here’s a hint:
I just get tired of people misspelling it. If I tell them “Forester, like the bourbon,” they STILL don’t get it.
I don’t drink Bourbon, but I do cook with it. When I do, I always use my namesake.
Makes a great Bourbon Chocolate Almond cake, I might add…
Silver Blue…who needs to make another one of these…REAL SOON!
One last nibble…

….of holiday cheer. The holiday deserts with mom and dad.
I dare not think of how many calories these contained, or how bad for the waistline. All I can say is they were very delish, and home made. From the front: Blueberry pie, Banana Pudding, and Chocolate Pudding Pie.
I’m glad the holidays don’t come around more often. I’d be as big as a house.
Silver Blue, who says that NOBODY makes banana pudding like my MAMA does. 🙂
It may look like a massacre…

…but in fact, it was the very VERY first cake I made from scratch. A gĂ©noise cake, meaning one that has no leavening agents in it other than firmly beaten eggwhites. It can flop on you, but mine did not.
It’s a three-layered white chocolate gĂ©noise, with a strawberry glaze atop. I made it for dad for his birthday in 2008. He liked it so much that I wasn’t allowed to take it back home with me!
Same goes for what I made him for father’s day that year: Strawberry Mousse Chocolat. Now this does NOT look like a massacre… it looks like… heaven. At least MY take on it.
In the springform pan:
With little stars of freshly beaten, sweetened whipped cream atop.
Unmolded:
You can see the layers of strawberry mousse and the chocolate brownie bottom. Finally:
All decked out on Mom’s china. It was a Father’s Day to remember.
Silver Blue, who is thankful for every holiday I’ve gotten to spend with my parents.
