Here are a selection of photos of the roses (and other flowers) around the Shenandoah Forester (the name I christened my house):<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/azalea_resize.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-76\" title=\"Azaleas\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/azalea_resize.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"569\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/azalea_resize.jpg 569w, https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/azalea_resize-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 569px) 100vw, 569px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Azaleas tend to bloom in early spring, except here where they bloom into June. Strange, I know, but then again, I&#8217;m the one who has roses that bloom in December. I liked the way the sun singled out this rose to &#8220;highlight.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/red-bunch_resize.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-87\" title=\"Red roses\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/red-bunch_resize.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/red-bunch_resize.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/red-bunch_resize-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Red (or maroon) seems to be a very popular colour for roses, and around my house is no exception. While I don&#8217;t care for all the lightning, the aftereffects make for some beautiful photos.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/peace-wet_resize.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-85\" title=\"Wet Peace Rose\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/peace-wet_resize.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"569\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/peace-wet_resize.jpg 569w, https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/peace-wet_resize-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 569px) 100vw, 569px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I have a Peace rose by my driveway that does something interesting (other than hold rain beautifully). It&#8217;s actually a tri-coloured rose off one rootball (and on the same cane, no less):<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/tricolour-peace_resize.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-90\" title=\"Tri-Colour Peace\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/tricolour-peace_resize.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"569\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/tricolour-peace_resize.jpg 569w, https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/tricolour-peace_resize-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 569px) 100vw, 569px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You see, the roses are yellow, pink and yellow, and almost all pink. I don&#8217;t know what causes it, but I do enjoy it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/pinky_resize.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-86\" title=\"Pink Cluster\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/pinky_resize.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/pinky_resize.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/pinky_resize-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Delicate, fragrant, and prolifically pink!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/charisma_resize.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-79\" title=\"Charisma\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/charisma_resize.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"569\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/charisma_resize.jpg 569w, https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/charisma_resize-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 569px) 100vw, 569px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve lost this rose since taking its photo, but it was known as a &#8220;Charisma.&#8221; I had it, and a &#8220;Gemini&#8221; (of which, unfortunately I have no photos of) that didn&#8217;t make it through one of the massively snowy winters we had about a decade ago.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/orangy_resize.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-84\" title=\"Orangy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/orangy_resize.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"569\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/orangy_resize.jpg 569w, https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/orangy_resize-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 569px) 100vw, 569px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Taken just this morning (that&#8217;s my Cinnamon basil to the right, and purple basil to the left), the heat doesn&#8217;t stop my orange roses from blooming any more than they did the red one I posted yesterday.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/iris_resize.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-81\" title=\"Iris\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/iris_resize.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"569\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/iris_resize.jpg 569w, https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/iris_resize-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 569px) 100vw, 569px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Of course, there&#8217;s Irises (in many colours), and gardenias:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/gardenia_resize.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-80\" title=\"Gardenia\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/gardenia_resize.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"569\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/gardenia_resize.jpg 569w, https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/gardenia_resize-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 569px) 100vw, 569px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>and these smell just as wonderful as they look.<\/p>\n<p>The mimosa (not just a drink!) is in bloom:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/mimosa_resize.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-83\" title=\"Mimosa\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/mimosa_resize.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/mimosa_resize.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/mimosa_resize-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>and they&#8217;re a lot like dandelion clocks in their delicate airiness. Of course, then they look really unattractive as they fade.<\/p>\n<p>Rhett! The magnolia&#8217;s in bloom! While everyone tends to photo them fully open, I captured this &#8220;unique&#8221; (to me) look:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/magnolia_resize.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-82\" title=\"Magnolia\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/magnolia_resize.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"569\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/magnolia_resize.jpg 569w, https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/magnolia_resize-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 569px) 100vw, 569px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Who watches over all these flowers, especially when I&#8217;m not around? Why the magical bunny of course!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/bunny_resize.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-78\" title=\"Magical Bunny\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/bunny_resize.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/bunny_resize.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/bunny_resize-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s hard to photo, as he&#8217;s always on the go, but the lure of the delicious clover was too much for him to pass up and he posed, majestically, for my camera. (Actually, having a quality zoom lens helped QUITE a bit!)<\/p>\n<p>Finally, just for my Northern Star&#8230;no flower photo journey would be complete, sans &#8220;Bud&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/bud_resize.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-77\" title=\"Bud\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/bud_resize.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/bud_resize.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.eyesofsilverblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/bud_resize-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Perhaps the favourite of all my roses, because this plant came into &#8220;Bud&#8221; in November, and stayed tight in its bud, weathering most of the winter, until Valentine&#8217;s day, when it opened up.<\/p>\n<p>Silver Blue, who is a true romantic at heart.<\/p>\n<p>(A<em> note about comments: If you wish to comment (and I  welcome them),  you have to click on the name of the post, which will  open it, and the  comment box is at the bottom of the screen.)<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230;you&#8217;ve just got to answer.
